Stephen Barefoot is president of goingbarefoot*inc., an entertainment design and production services company based in Durham, NC.  With more than 20 years' experience in arts & entertainment administration, programming and production, he brings a well-seasoned instinct to venue programming and audience development.  His professional experience spans executive & personnel administration of historic theatre properties, consultancies in marketing, programming & venue management, design and implementation of presenter series, plus corporate and large-scale commemorative event production.

 

Mr. Barefoot directed the pre-restoration administration and programming (film & live events) for three years at the Carolina Theatre in Durham, NC and subsequently designed & produced the five-day gala re-opening of the renovated historic facility and initiated its "Stress Reduction" program series.  Since 1995, he has designed the "Main Attractions" series at North Carolina's most historic theatre, the 1858 Thalian Hall in Wilmington, where corporate sponsorships have more than doubled and net box office receipts have increased by more than 250% under this tenure. He also handles artist booking and contract negotiation for NC's new Sampson Center and the Pinehurst (NC) Forum.

 

On contract as chief administrator for the North Carolina Presenters Consortium, one of the largest presenter networks in the United States, he serves as editor of NCPC's annual guide to events at performing arts centers across the Tar Heel state.  He produced the record-breaking NC Presenters' 15-city tour by the Irish-Canadian group Leahy in 1999 and Gregory Popovich's Comedy and Pet Theatre in 2002.   He has conducted presenting and block booking workshops at Southern Arts Exchange and for a number of state presenting networks.
