Janis Barlow and Killis Almond, FAIA were
retained by the
Lincoln Theatre in Marion, Virginia to determine whether the purchase of an
adjacent property to the theatre was an appropriate direction for the theatre's
development. Given the escalating cost of the property and its condition, it was
determined that purchase at the present time was not ideal.
Designs were subsequently developed to transform the former
historic vaudeville and film house into a film and performing arts center. Mr.
Almond’s design included stadium seating to generate maximum intimacy in an
unusually high-ceilinged auditorium, and effective use of limited front-of-house
space.
A review and amendments to the theatre’s five-year old
Business Plan were provided, and the first phase of renovations is currently
underway.
